North America

Some really nice veggies are in season at the moment- end of winter root vegetables are still going great, as are artichokes, asparagus, celery root and fennel.

For fruits try grapefruit, kiwi and pineapple.

If you like seafood – good for you – you should be able to get delicious crabs, crayfish, mussels and clams at reasonable prices and really fresh right now.

Spinach, watercress, chicory, broccoli and cauliflower. Mmm green leafy vegetables, pretty much the healthiest thing you can possibly eat! Watercress is particularly delicious and not as well known as it should be- so refreshing and tasty.

Meats that are good right now are rabbit and wood pigeon.

Southern Hemisphere

Greens are all great right now- don’t be afraid of them, there are so many ways to eat spinach, silverbeet, bok choy, cabbage, cress, etc and they are so good for you.

Figs, pomegranates, walnuts, persimmons and plums are delicious now. Plums are wonderful, so many different types and things you can do with them. Big and small, sweet or tart, golden to deep purple eat them fresh or dried, in jam, tarts, sauce and pies. Plums are a good source of vitamins A and C, calcium, magnesium, iron, potassium and fiber, so go out and find some that you enjoy!
