Really fast and simple sweet treats are necessary sometimes. Figs are such a lovely treat and preparing them this way is great to serve with cheese and a good wine.
- 30g hazelnuts
- 80ml (1/3 cup) honey
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 4-6 figs, quartered
- 200g sheep’s milk feta (for appetizer/dessert) or ricotta (for breakfast/lunch)
- Mint leaves, to serve
- Toasted brioche (breakfast/lunch) or almond bread (appetizer/dessert), to serve
Preheat oven to 180°C. Spread the hazelnuts over a baking tray. Bake for 8 minutes or until toasted. Place the hazelnuts on a clean tea towel and rub to remove the skins. Coarsely chop.
Meanwhile, place the honey and cinnamon in a frying pan over medium heat and cook for 2 minutes or until heated through. Add the figs and cook, turning, for 1 minute until well coated.
If you serve the figs with feta, use some almond bread and sprinkle the figs with the nuts and mint. If you’re having toast, spread thickly with ricotta and top with the figs then nuts and mint too.
Good for any time of the day!
