Some people love the same salad dressing all the time, but of course a dressing can totally change the taste of a salad, so switching it up can be really fun. You can take baby spinach from Italy to Tokyo just by changing the dressing. Here are a few of our favorites.
Akie’s soy dressing
This great recipe was given to me by my beautiful friend Akie, it is super simple, but really rich and flavorful.
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp seeded mustard
Stir all these ingredients vigorously and it’s done!
Balsamic Vinegarette
- 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar
- 1 tbsp red wine vinegar
- 1 tbsp dijon mustard
- 1 tsp light brown sugar
- 1 garlic clove, crushed
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper
- 3/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
Mix them all together, adding the olive oil last- a whisk will be perfect.
This makes about 1 cup so keep the rest in a jar for a bit, or halve the recipe.
Honey-Lime Dressing
- The juice of 2-3 limes (about 1/3 cup)
- 1 1/2 tbsp honey, or to taste
- 1 tbsp white wine or rice vinegar
- pinch of salt (to taste)
Again whisk them up and enjoy.
Classic caesar salad dressing
- 1/2 cup olive oil
- 1 egg
- 1 clove garlic
- 1/2 tsp dry mustard
- 1 tsp lime juice
- 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Whisk first 6 ingredients in blender. Then slowly add the parmesan and add to salad immediately.
Lemon vinegarette
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1/4 cup white wine vinegar
- 1 tsp prepared mustard
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- 1 tsp white sugar
- 1 tsp grated lemon rind
Mix all the ingredients together- its a good idea to use a clean jar and give the whole thing a good shake with the lid on, then it’s easy to store if you have excess too.
