Perfect pizza dough

Posted on: September 9th, 2009 by admin 1 Comment

We love pizza, thick crust or thin, many ingredients or few, as long as it’s home-made, we’re pretty happy with whatever is on it. Our preference is for deep-dish pizza, but this recipe is pretty versatile, it’s up to you how thick or thin you roll your dough.

  • 1 1/2 c water
  • 8 g (2 1/4 tsp, 1 pkt) dry yeast (you can use quick rise if you want to)
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 2 3/4 c flour
  • generous pinch of salt

Place 1/2 c warm water in a mixing bowl with the sugar and the yeast, and let the yeast feed, well… grow. Until it froths to about twice the size. Maybe 10 minutes. Add the rest of the water (1 c) and then mix in the flour and salt slowly.

Knead for a good 10 minutes and then pop the dough in a lightly greased bowl to rise (for about 45 min). After this, sometimes we are impatient for the pizza so we knead the dough a little more and then use it, but you can let it rise again after kneading for about another 30 minutes if you have time.

Split the dough in two and on a tray or we use springform pans, spread the dough to your desired thickness. Add your toppings and bake in a 200ºC (400ºF) oven for about 30 – 45 minutes. Stay tuned for a great pizza sauce recipe.
