It has been a while since we’ve reviewed somewhere on eatpress. It may be due to the final weeks of winter keeping us all indoors with home-made soup. However now that the weather is nicer, it is fun to pop over to (the best) croissant bakery in Montreal, which we happen to live close to (and to be honest winter doesn’t keep us away).

Patisserie Fous Desserts is a lovely little bakery and chocolatier. The specialties here are hand-made chocolates, little sweets, and viennese pastries, if those words right there don’t get you excited, wait till you try the delicacies. Earlier we mentioned that they make the best croissants in Montreal (made with organic wheat)- a huge call indeed, and, obviously, these things are personal, due to your particular taste in what makes a croissant perfect. Could also be confirmed by the fact that they sell out by mid-morning, but never fear- they do an afternoon bake also. To be honest we love Fous best for its almond croissants, which are by far the most delicious things ever to be created in a bakery.

The hand-made chocolates are absolutely lovely, with a gorgeous flavors ranging from pink peppercorn dark chocolate, to caramel rum and fleur de sel milk chocolate. Their sweets are also amazing- read how they describe one of them- le phénix…

  • Le phénix reveals an intense inner core under a sweet cloud. Mounted on a brownie layer, a thin chocolate coating hides a light Caribbean chocolate mousse wrapped around an Araguani cocoa ganache. The density of the cocoa blends delicately with the moistness of the cake. Accompanied by a glass of port, Le phénix is simply heaven on earth!

Rose nougat brioche, palm pastry with organic cane sugar, truffethé, la mont framboise, as well as lots of teas and coffees, really you should just get to Montreal somehow and try these…
